More fun stuff

I have been wanting to make Jonathan a bag for his piano lesson books and I finally got around to starting it last week and finished it tonight. It is, of course, made out of Spongebob material.

Next week Jonathan turns 8 and we are having a Lego birthday party. These are the invitations. His friends will have to assemble the legos to get the invitation. I have some more fun things planned for the party so stay tuned. I am not one who enjoys a house full of kids so I didn't think I would enjoy birthday parties much. But I learned last year that if you plan well and have enough help it can be fun.

My computer died at the end of November, and even though I could have used the desktop, I just didn't have the will to put all my pictures on it. Still, I had to put them all back on the laptop after it was completely gutted and rebuilt because heaven forbid they just give me a new one. Anyway, here is what we have been up to since fall.

Disneyland, Halloween and the Swine Flu
In that order...

Disney in pictures.

We were so proud of Jonathan because he went on all the major rides at Disneyland. Even Space Mountain, although this one scared him nearly to death. It helped that Aunt Kerri bribed him with $10 to do it.


Halloween

Sadly, I did not get a lot of pictures of Halloween. Jonathan actually had two costumes this year. The first was a Penguin, which I did not get a picture of. The Penguin was his original idea and we made it out of felt, foam and black sweats. Then we found these adorable prisoner costumes for the dogs at Target. So, we had to make Jonathan a police officer of course. We bought the hat and assorted cheap plastic police stuff at Walmart and I made the tool belt out of felt and hot glue. We decided to take Dollie trick or treating since she is kind of a bad dog and probably should be in doggie jail sometimes. Jonathan did end up wearing the penguin costume to my work party.
Swine Flu
I caught the dreaded swine flu the first day of November. I felt fine Halloween night and all through church the next day. Then bam, it hit me like that night and I went to Instacare with breathing problems. As I suspected the diagnosis was H1N1. They gave me a prescription for Tamiflu and I spent the rest of the evening driving to and waiting at the only 24 hr pharmacy in the county. Jonathan came down with the flu later that week and we also got him some Tamiflu. It really wasn't too bad an illness with Tamiflu, but just from that first night I could tell it would have been completely miserable without it. Russ did not come down with the flu since he got the vaccine at work a few weeks before. At least we know the vaccine works.

Misunderstood

We're in California visiting Russell's family and taking a trip to Disneyland tomorrow. I will post pictures when I get a chance, but I had to write down a conversation with Jonathan before I forget it.

My father in law gave us a book with some pictures and family stories (mostly about his parents and grandparents) and I was reading it most of the day yesterday. Jonathan asked me last night what this book was that I had been reading. I told him it was family history about his ancestors. He looks up (like he's looking at heaven) and says "my ancestors up there?" Because some of the people in the stories are still alive I said, "Some of them." Then his eyes get big; he points down and says "Are some of them down there?"

At this point Russ and I doubled over laughing.

Candy Bouquet

Jonathan and I made this as a get well gift for our poor cousin Christina who has to have surgery next week to repair her achilles tendon.

Shower curtain... uh curtain.

Whoever designed our house really should have been fired. We have a sliding glass door that opens to nothing in our second floor bedroom. And in the master bath, which faces east, we have a window right in the shower. Thankfully the glass is frosted so the neighbors don't have to see us naked, but in the morning the sun is shining right in our eyes as we shower. This isn't as much of a problem for Russ, being that he's nocturnal, but it has driven me crazy for over 9 years. It says something about my laziness that I haven't done anything about it until now.

I wanted a curtain on this window, but I needed something that wouldn't get all moldy and gross in the shower. So I bought a shower curtain and cut it up to make a curtain for my stupid shower window. I'm a little worried, as it looks like the sun might shine right through the curtain. Today was not the best day to test it out since it was overcast most of the day.

I made another really cute craft tonight, but it's a gift so I have to wait until after I give it away to post the pictures.

Lots to catch up on

September has been a busy month.

Aunt Kerri came out to visit us in early September.

Well, she came out to visit Keith Urban, but she couldn't get past security so she had to stay with us instead.

We had lunch with Jonathan at school on Thursday. Pizza day!

Friday was September 11. We planned to spend the day at Boondocks, but had to go to Costco to get the discount passes. Costco had 3 fire departments, the National Guard and a big cake so we hung out for a while. Kerri wanted to climb the big ladder, but they wouldn't let her. The American Fork Fire Department had this cute little dog in a remote control fire truck. It looked cute, but then you got close and it would squirt water at you. Not so cute.

This tire is almost as tall as Jonathan.

Saturday was Talk Like a Pirate Day so we dressed as pirates and had a party at Great Grandma's house.

Reinforced knees

Jonathan is brutal on his jeans and I usually end up buying a few new pair halfway through the school year. This year I used iron on patches to reinforce the knees. I hope it works. Cupcake Purse

This is my MP3 player. It plays movies, music and audiobooks, and it is what makes the gym tolerable for me. I have been worried about the screen getting scratched in my purse so I made a little case for it tonight.
