Draper Temple Open House

We went to the Draper Temple open house on Monday. I had never been to a temple open house before so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was kind of worried that it would be too long and Jonathan would get bored. Not true at all! It's a relatively short tour, starting off with a short video about the temple and what we do there. The inside of the temple is beautiful, of course. I enjoyed the murals and other artwork on the walls. I tried to be sort of a tour guide for Jonathan, but the only thing that really impressed him was the baptismal font. If you want to see a picture of one, go here.

They really put a lot of work into making things flow smoothly. I've heard that in past open houses people had to wait in long lines outside the temple. Now they are having people make reservations and you are assigned to park in one of 3 or 4 different church parking lots and take a bus to the temple. They are so organized that there is no waiting in long lines, which was really nice for people with children.

The open house is open to anyone who wants to see the new temple and there are still reservations available. And it's free.

Randomness

I was tagged by Sarah Jayne http://sndandkiddos.blogspot.com/ to post 25 random things about myself. I decided to change it a little and do 25 random things about our family. Since this is a family blog.

1. We watch the X Files together, all 3 of us. I started buying Russ the DVD's last year and we all enjoy them. It's so fun to cuddle on the couch and watch a semi-scary show.

2. Russ has never had the Chicken Pox. How does that happen in a family with 6 children?

3. Our dog Pumpkin thinks she is human. She sleeps on Russell's pillow when he is not home.

4. I like being a stay at home mom, but I don't like staying home all day while the boy is in school.

5. I hate hate HATE the snow and would love to move back to AZ. That is not likely to ever happen, but I'm okay with it for about 8 months out of the year.

6. Jonathan was 4'2" last time we took him to the doctor. That is exactly 1 foot shorter than me. He's growing too fast.

7. Russ thinks sites like Facebook are a waste of time, but playing war games online is just fine.

8. I like playing video games with Jonathan, but not the war games Russ plays.

9. I need to clean my house but I'm doing this instead.

10. I love to read have a book with me most everywhere I go, just in case I have to wait somewhere.

11. Russ has worked at the same hospital since he graduated from college.

12. We want to adopt a baby.

13. Jonathan wants a puppy too, but we said no.

14. I set myself on fire with a sparkler when I was 3.

15. Jonathan has a wonderful imagination. He can entertain himself for hours making up stories with his toys. He even won a contest at school for a story he wrote.

16. Russ does a lot of the chores around the house. He does dishes and laundry and is solely responsible for snow shoveling.

17. I like to do crafty things, but I hate the mess they make so I don't do them very often.

18. Jonathan is a really great reader. I get to lead his reading group at school once a week and all 5 in the group are so smart.

19. We are going to the Draper Temple open house tonight.

20. I have lived in our current house longer than I ever lived in any one house growing up. (We've lived here 9 years this month)

21. I don't ever want to move (except to AZ) because I love our neighbors and ward and I don't think I'd like living anywhere else in UT.

22. I hate seeing For Sale signs in my neighbors' yards (you know who you are).

23. My house really needs new carpet, but Russ says I have to paint first and I don't want to paint.

24. I spend too much time every day looking at blogs, but I try to do it when the boy is at school or in bed.

25. I did go to the gym this morning. I didn't like it, but I went.

Oops. I forgot to tag someone. I don't remember how many people to tag so I'm going to tag everyone.

Fun with dummies

Every year since Jonathan was a baby I have taken a CPR/First Aid class. It started with a somewhat irrational fear of something happening to my baby and then I was so overwhelmed by all the information that I decided I needed to take the class over the next year and the next and the next... After about 7 classes I think I could remember what to do if I need it, but I hope I never do. Now I have to be certified for my job so I get to take the class for free every year.

I'm always sort of amused at the dismembered "victims" we have to practice on. This year our pretend face shields had faces drawn on them. I named my victim Manny, but those red lips make him look like a girl. Maybe he was in drag?

Hey, I had to be up at 7 am for this. Everything is funny when you don't get enough sleep.

Our poor doggy

Dollie had some teeth pulled today. She's so enthusiastic about her food that her teeth break. Actually, I don't know why they broke, but they had to come out. We also had her remaining teeth cleaned because you might as well kill two birds with one stone and put the vet's kid through college too.

Dogs have to be sedated for dental work. Can you imagine pulling a dog's tooth out while she's awake? Especially a large, hungry dog like Dollie. I wouldn't put my hand in there. So, Dollie is still a little loopy and in some pain. Poor thing can't even get up the stairs she's so drunk.

Switzerland

My cousin took this picture last time Jonathan visited their house. They are die hard Ute fans, but Russ went to BYU. So who does the poor boy root for? Oh the confusion of such a blended family! So we are Switzerland, we cheer for both teams. Or we pull out the U of A gear and forsake the Utah schools. ;)

My Camera

For Brenna and anyone else who wanted to know, this is my new camera. It is a Canon Powershot A590 and it's currently on sale on Amazon for $99. I paid $109 and Best Buy has it for $150 so this is a great deal if anyone is looking for a camera.

Free Photobook

It occurred to me that I have a few friends who don't know Rachel (The Cheerio Chronicles in the links on my sidebar) and so I'd better make a post myself. Rachel just had a link on her blog to a free photo book at Hoorray.com The code is bzzalbum. I think you have to use it by the 20th so there's still time.
