Tooth

Jonathan lost his first tooth tonight. Finally! I think he is among the last (if not the last) in his class to lose a tooth.

We had some funny conversations about his tooth and the tooth fairy. First, we had to call Russ at work to tell him. Jonathan asked Russ to guess what had happened. He gave a hint. "It's something I've never done before in my life." Russell's response? "Flush the toilet?"

Later Jonathan was curious about how much money the tooth fairy brings. I told him that when I was a kid it was 25 cents, but that was a long time ago. He said, "Yeah, I'm sure the tooth fairy knows better by now".

As I type, he is trying to fall asleep with his tooth under his pillow in the super cool bag I made with my mad sewing skills.

Sicker than a dog...

Where does that phrase come from anyway? Our dogs are rarely ever sick. No, this time it's me. I hesitate to post this because it seems like too much information, but I do have a few people in my family who find bacteria fascinating so I post this for them.

Since Saturday I have been on extremely high doses of two antibiotics, whose names I can't spell, in order to kill a bacteria in my stomach. In addition to those, I have two additional medications to relieve symptoms. The antibiotics are making me sicker than the actual illness. I have to do this for two weeks and I'm on day 3 and want to die. Well, not really. Gee I wonder where Jonathan gets his dramatic streak. But, seriously it sucks. If this doesn't work the doctor is going to scope my stomach. I promise to post pictures if she does.

Dinner Time

Conversation with Jonathan as I was making dinner:

Jonathan: "Mom, why are you making that? It stinks!"

Me: "That's rude. Maybe you need to spend some time in your room."

Jonathan: "Sorry. It just smells bad."

Apparently, it is rude to say something stinks, but saying dinner smells bad is okay.

Home Depot

In a society where customer service has seemingly gone down the toilet, I have to give credit when I receive excellent customer service. Remember the receipt incident with the Evil Empire?(I recently saw another blog refer to this store as Voldemart) Today I had some things to return to Home Depot. I thought I had remembered to keep my receipt, but upon turning my purse inside out I realized that I must have thrown it out. I decided to try and return the items anyway. What could it hurt? And guess what? Home Depot can look up a past sale using your credit / debit card! I have also learned that Kohl's can do this as well. Come on Walmart, you make enough money to buy this technology as well.

Xlear
After reading about this product in the Healthy Utah magazine (the free magazine at the doctor's office), I decided to give it a try. The basic idea behind the product is that keeping your nose clean will help you stay healthy. I have been using this all fall and winter with excellent results. I have only been sick twice and both times the illness was much milder than it usually would have been. Right now I have a respiratory infection that in the past has sent me to the hospital or at least to Instacare for a breathing treatment. So far, even though I think I'm going to cough up a lung, my breathing is okay.

Look what I made

When I was a kid my mom made us all Tooth Fairy pillows. They had a little pocket on the front with our names embroidered on them. Well, I can't sew well or embroider, so I decided to make Jonathan a bag with a tooth on it. It has so many mistakes and I hate the stitching I did around the tooth. I think I could do better if I ever attempt to make one again, but Jonathan seems happy enough with this one. He still hasn't lost any teeth yet, but now we are prepared for when he does.Tacky the Penguin
Jonathan's class put on a little play for their parents last week. They turned a book into a reader's theater. Jonathan was one of the narrators. They kids all had little foam visors for their parts. There were Penguins, Hunters and Narrators.
A Public Service Announcement
I went to lunch yesterday with some of the ladies from work. I always have a good time with these women and we always find something to laugh about. Yesterday was no exception. Olive Garden is so busy that it appears they have crammed tables into every available space. This provides nosy people like me the opportunity to listen to conversations at the next table. Yesterday we were seated just inches away from a group of middle aged conspiracy theorists. Did you know that the fall of communism in the Soviet Union was staged? It was! And when we least expect it, the Russians are going to rise up and take over the world. You've now been warned.

This is how I spent my Friday night...

Helping Jonathan assemble the Tie fighter he bought with his assortment of birthday money and gift cards. This is the ship Jonathan got from his aunt Kerri for his birthday. I also assisted (basically did it myself) in the assembly of this one.

Jonathan got this one from Grandma and Grandpa Denzine for Christmas. Aunt Kerri assembled this one in Tucson, but I did have to reassemble a little bit tonight.
This is our kitchen table. This is a happy boy.
